Who Is Joel Nelson?

Raised in Northern VA, Joel has worked his way across the film industry. Whether it be PA or Director, Writer or Grip, he has done it and loved it. Starting in high school as an intern film logger for Cortina Productions, Joel has done everything in his power to be involved in the A/V storytelling industry.

After earning his bachelors in film production from The Evergreen State College in Washington state, Joel began working freelance jobs in the Metro DC area. He worked on everything from FBI training videos to startup company advertisements. However, this wasn't enough; Joel went on to produce a YouTube series in hopes to better learn the techniques of editing. From narrative to commercial, Joel found his footing as a reporter and social media manager at Inland Networks back in Roslyn, WA.

Joel quickly climbed to managing the entire local cable channel as Chief Editor. From scheduling interviews, sourcing news and editing the weekly TV news, Joel began to gain a better knowledge of broadcast and the ins and outs of the production pipeline. Not simply content to work for others, Joel used his free time merging a hobby of Dungeons and Dragons with his passion for storytelling. He created the experimental live-play podcast, "Let's D&D This."

After growing as much as he could. Joel moved down to Orlando, Florida to earn his M.F.A. in Film Production at Full Sail University. Earning his degree in a single year, Joel directed his cohort's thesis film, "The Blackmailer."

While directing and working behind the cameras, Joel has also been working in the background as a Voice Over Artist. You may have heard him on the short comedy series Project Voicebend or as a narrator for the local Roslyn news!

Actively raised in environments that embodied collaboration, Joel Nelson is a dedicated team oriented worker who is always eager to lend a hand with others in telling an audio visual story. If you see Joel, just know he's already thinking about how to improve the next thing coming his way!
